Tuesday: Discussion of claims from the Gladwell and Sharma articles. Wednesday: Gallery Walk of Theme Infographics, Evaluation and note taking of infographics. Thursday: Introduction to AP Argument Essay. How to set up your essay. We also brainstormed how to approach an AP argument prompt. Here is the handout. Also, check out this resource. It has a lot of good tips for the AP argument prompt. Friday: Thesis Statement Throwdown in practice for AP argumentative writing.

Monday: We discussed Syria Station #1 (Podcast). Unfortunately Station #2 did not work on school wifi. Please look over this station before we write out argumentative essay next week. We then discussed big ideas and created themes with this worksheet. I passed out the documentary analysis essay assignment. Due on Monday.
Tuesday: NO SCHOOL for students. Enjoy your day off! Get some rest, and maybe get ahead on your work? Wednesday: Guest Speaker, Diane Ansari, spoke about her time in Iran in the 1970s. Thursday: Station discussion of Syrian Refugee Crisis. See station questions here. Friday: SSR Share Outs Monday: We started doing some background discussions on current events in the Middle East. You shared your articles/analysis with your group members and then made connections between events on this group handout. 2nd & 6th Period will not be doing the same assignments this week because I am short on Persepolis books. Please make sure to do the work for the appropriate class if you miss. We will be back on the same track in 2 weeks!

Monday: I collected your Patrick Henry rhetorical analysis essay. Then, we talked about revolution in this powerpoint. We also analyzed the SOAPS and "rhetoric of revolution" in the Braveheart Freedom Speech and Les Miserables "Do You Hear the People Sing". Please make sure to read the Declaration of Independence. Do a basic annotation of the document to come prepared for class tomorrow.
Tuesday: Check Notebook Time Ppt for new rhetorical device definitions. We talked about the classical oration method of argument. See this powerpoint for notes. We then divided the Declaration into the sections of argument. Wednesday: In groups, we rhetorically analyzed sections of the Declaration of Independence focusing on the impact of word choice on the argument. The group document is HERE. Thursday: We finished our analysis of group sections of the Declaration. Then, we identified and defended the most important words in the Declaration. We discussed the significance of diction in rhetorical analysis and finished up with a quick-write. Friday: SSR Share-Out Presentations. I also passed out the Middle East Background Assignment. Please complete this for Monday as we prepare for our next unit of Persepolis. |
