"Stillness descended on them. Ralph, looking with more understanding at Piggy, saw that he was hurt and crushed. He hovered between the two courses of apology or further insult. 'Better Piggy than Fatty,' he said at last..." - Ralph (Narration), Page 25

I agree. The quote shows that Ralph still has some growing up to do.

I agree with you and everyone else. This quote shows us the maturity level of Ralph and how he still needs some maturing to do. He is a decent leader as it is, but he isn't very nice to Piggy.

I agree, just because Ralph is the leader does not mean he can treat someone with disrespect because it only makes him look bad.

I totally agree with this analysis, and not only that but in a way this quote shows how we as people really are its really realistic because we all know someone or maybe we are the one who is rude like so.

"The older boys first noticed the child when he resisted. There was a group of little boys urging him forward and he did not want to go. He was a shrimp boy, about six years old, and one side of his face was blotted out by a mulberry-colored birthmark." -Narrator page 35

I think in someway in the book piggy will somewhat become the "lord of the flies." Both Ralph and Jack make fun of him. They constantly make fun of him and disregard his pleas to stop. "Kids' names," said Merridew. "Why should I be Jack? I'm Merridew." Ralph turned to him quickly. This was the vpice of who knew his own mind. "Then," went on Piggy, "that boy---I forget---" "You're talking to much,"said Jack Merridew."Shut up, Fatty" Laughter arose. "He's not fatty," cried Ralph, "his real name's Piggy!" "Piggy!" "Piggy!" "Oh, Piggy!" - Chapter One pg.21. I mean think about it. These older kids are with kids between six to possibly ten years old at the most. Though, with excessive bullying he's shying away from everyone and he's alone. That says something personally to me. I don't think he's planning anything , but since there's no real inforcing rules and stuff that Ralph is doing and the longer they stay on the island soon enough people will be against one another. To conclude, these are my findings and things that I see in the future in this book.

''Ralph and Jack looked at each other while society paused about them. The shameful knowledge grew in them and they did not know how to begin confession.''

I agree with you. I think that something bad is going to happen because of the connotation of the quote.

I agree with this. There is a lot of lying and secrets being kept they all think there being saved when really nobody knows that for sure. they say operators now there location due to the crash but than again there are many places where they could of ended up.

I agree. Using deliberate negative words gives the reader an eerie feeling. "Beast" and "creature" could easily describe the fear coming from the characters.

I also agree that this was a good way of introducing Piggy, and how it shows that he was most likely bullied in school, or was just made fun of.

I think this quote reveals a bit of Piggy's character. It shows that he dislikes the name Piggy and he is standing up for himself so he is not called Piggy.

I agree with your analysis. We see an insight about piggy's background about when he previously arrived on the island. With tensension with the boys on the island, piggy seems somewhat out of place and excluded around everyone. Yes, he's over weight and suffers from asthma and miss his aunt ,but something's off about him. He avoids everyone not just by calling him piggy ,but I believe there's more going on the next chapters

Piggy's background is especially important because he is portrayed as one of the main characters of the book.

Yes, it does make it easier to get along with others who are similar, however this creates cliques at a time when they can destroy productivity.

Yes i agree, the boys felt safer surrounded by people they were similar to instead of different. They felt less awkward. However, it could cause problems because those groups of people could not want to work with people who are different than them.

Ralph shows a unique and surprisingly effective way to be a leader. By asking what is it he wants to choir to be states his confidence in them. Not only that, but the way he phrased it would definitely leave people thinking about it later on

I agree with you. We learn a little bit about Jacks cocky attitude in this quote. Throughout the first 3 chapters we get to see more and more of his cockiness/confidence and that could be his downfall.
