"If you are scared of someone you hate him but you can't stop thinking about him. You kid yourself he's all right really, an' then when you see him again, it's like asthma an' you can't breathe. I tell you what. He hates you too, Ralph-" -Piggy page 93

The author describes Piggy as "shorter than [Ralph] and very fat," (Pg 7) and having a button nose and thick spectacles.

Piggy is a very intelligent boy who is out of shape and struggles to fit in. The other boys constantly pick on Piggy and make fun of him. An example of this is no one takes him seriously and is constantly calling him fat. The boys get very annoyed by him because they do not want to listen to what he has to say. Piggy makes very smart decisions and thinks clearly unlike the other boys. For example, when the boys fun off and make the fire, he said they should of made some shelters first bc that's more important, which is true.

Jack is stubborn, tall, outgoing, violent, and older then most of the boys. The other boys are intimidated by him because of his knife, and bossy attitude.

Simon is a short and skinny kid that has coarse, black hair. On page 24, Ralph says "If Simon walks in the middle of us, then we could talk over his head." Over time he develops a deep tan, though. Simon is usually quiet, and is often cautious. Whenever Simon steps up to speak, usually a group of littluns will laugh, implying that Simon could have been the target of harassment back at home. Ralph, however, seems to take a liking to Simon. He often looks to Simon before Jack. When Simon was first introduced, he was described as a weak child, as he fainted within the ranks of the choir. After some time, Simon goes away to his hidden sanctuary, unknown to anyone else. This could imply that Simon is skeptical of the others and doesn't trust them. When Ralph chose Simon to accompany Jack and him to survey the land, that marked Simon's growth as a character. Not only did this strengthen his ego, but also how Jack and Ralph look at him. For example, when the hunters went to look for the beast, Simon volunteered to go back and check on Piggy. This action could be for multiple reasons, but in the moment, Ralph and Jack respected Simon's decision. Simon uses his boosted ego to reassure Ralph on the road to find the beast. "You'll get back where you can from," Simon said to Ralph on page 111. With those wise words, Simon was able to support Ralph in his role as a leader amongst the boys. Simon will continue to grow as a strong supporting character, just as he already has begun.
