Within the diamond haze of the beach something dark was fumbling along...Then the creature stepped from the mirage on to clear sand, and they saw that the darkness was not all shadow but mostly clothing (19). CH1

I agree this does seem like its foreshadowing that Jack will become some dark person. His obsession with killing a pig also seems like if hes alright with killing a pig maybe he will be okay with killing a person like what Taylor said in class Thursday.

I like when it says, "was not all shadow, but mostly clothing". I agree that this looks like it will foreshadow a change in Jack's character. However, I also see that perhaps it is reminding us that though Jack's character is becoming darker, he is still a boy in those clothes.

Good connection, but i think the killing of a pig was a needed action and does not necessarily mean he okay with killing a human. it makes sense he would be happy about killing an animal (not because he is cruel) but because now they can eat, and also i think young boys in general get exited about killing things but young boys are not dark murderers

I like how you mentioned he gets frustrated very easily and that isn't okay as a leader. He could get violent or say something wrong that makes the others want to take away his title as their leader. Ralph doesn't know how to make the little ones feel safe and that could lead to bigger issues later.

I don't think Ralph is fit to be leader he gets frustrated easily and none of the other boys listen to him. Also any acts that have happen have been Piggys ideas. Like the meetings or building shelters. Ralph has no idea what to do.

I like how you showed the contrast in the characters here. I agree that it will probably be Piggy doing something big in the book and not the "leaders". He was already the one who found the conch, his glasses lit the fire, so it already seems that he is better than he is given credit for. I think something with Piggy will happen later.

Every time the boys leave Piggy out it makes me really sad. Piggy has done absolutely nothing wrong and the boys still treat him as an outsider. Someone needs to knock some sense into these boys.

"What's your name?" "Ralph." The fat boy waited to be asked his name in turn but this proffer of acquaintance was not made; the fair boy called Ralph smiled vaguely, stood up, and began to make his way once more to the lagoon. The fat boy hung steadily at his shoulder. (p. 9) Ralph and Piggy

Yeah, Ralph does seem like a born leader. He can easily control people and they listen. You can definitely see that with him and Piggy. Do you think Ralph will be able to keep this mentality as the days progress?

I agree that he is a natural borned leader and does put piggy under his wing. We can even see when things don't go his way he tends to lose his good leader characteristics. Eventually this will have to cause some issues.

I like how you bring up the god complex, but not bring up how Ralph never asked Piggy his name. It just brings more to the table that Ralph never really had much respect for Piggy in the first place.

I agree with you Ralph may have got himself in a situation, being the leader, that he can not handle very well. The main thing he needs to do is comfort the little children but he is to young and immature himself to know exactly what to do.

Oh I like this. He probably bit off more than he could chew...but maybe Ralph is a little spooked by the beast too? He could be having a hard time reassuring/comforting the kids because he also is scared. He is a child, as Emily pointed out too as well as you

Also no one else on the island is taking this very seriously they are off playing and entertaining themselves instead of helping hunt or build shelters.

I agree with how Ralph's behavior affects the other children. If he does or says something, they automatically agree with it and do the same. And I like how you pointed out Piggy is actually helpful and smarter than the others think. If they would put their own feeling aside and listen to him, they could avoid a lot of problems and probably get rescued.

What if the author is trying to suggest something from his experience in D-Day? A lot of things were all happening at once that day and what if he had a better plan of action and no one listened.

Reminds me of Game of Thrones when Khaleesi comes out of the fire unscathed, through the smoke, and everyone is like- oh crap, she is the Mother of Dragons and she comes out with three baby dragons.

"I got the conch! Just you listen! The first thing we ought to have made was shelter down there by the beach. It wasn't half cold down there in the night. But the first time Ralph says 'fire' you goes howling and screaming up this here here mountain. Like a pack of kids!" (Piggy, pg 45)

Piggy proboly would be a better leader, but he doesn't have enough grit. That might have led to him being thrown over quickly even if he was in charge. Great thought.

Piggy could easily have been the leader but he is way to nice and couldn't make the hard choices for the group as a whole.

I like what you say here, do you think that the meeting seemed slower because the boys have lost some of their hope and will to continue waiting for rescue.

I like how you interpreted this quote, do you think that perhaps Piggy is just putting too much trust in others because of his desire to be rescued?

I don't think it was for his desire to be rescued but for his desire to be accepted.

I feel like this quote shows us that Piggy is quick to forgive, even if he is still treated badly. I would hope Piggy quickly learns to not so automatically forgive Ralph and the other children for their rude behavior to him.

I like how how you mentioned how they are beginning to realize how hard life alone on an island is. I think the way they react to this realization is a direct connection to their age. Since they are kids they are all positive and dont worry much they just think even though its hard we just have to try harder and it will be easy. Whereas some older people would react differently because theyve been exposed to reality and death and would take a more serious approach
