My name is Allyson Shifflett and I am in second period AP Language. This summer, I went to the Outer Banks with my family right after school ended. We had never been there before, and we're surprised to learn about the ghost crabs that cover the beach after dusk. Myrtle Beach doesn't have any of them, but I researched them online and found out that they are virtually harmless, so my siblings and I had a lot of fun chasing them and catching them at nighttime. Also, one of the most interesting things that happened down in the Outer Banks was my cousin and I finding a small shark washed up on the beach one night. It was really scary at first because we thought that something in the ocean had eaten the entire bottom half of the shark, but after closer examination we realized that fishermen had caught it and cut it up, then threw it back in the water. It was kind of gross and it smelled really bad, but it was really cool to be able to look at the shark up close without being scared of it.

Thanks for the great post Allyson. I am excited to see how much your grow in confidence in the class. Your trip to the Outer Banks sounds amazing. I have never been there before, but would like to go. My brother and sister in law went there on vacation this summer and they loved it.

Hello, my name is YJ Arciaga, and I am in Sixth Period AP Literature. This summer was absolutely fantastic until midway through June, where a growth of laziness and boredom escalated day in, and day out. However, by the time, July hit, my active energy to do things was awakened. The most interesting things I did this summer, was hanging out with friends, and spending time with my family. I found the true value of life, and how every moment counts, even through the darkest of times, and the most critical of times. I am honored to be in a friendship with the friends I hanged out with. They were truly tremendous people, with colorful personalities all-around. Absolutely fantastic! Sadly, some of these friends either heading off to college, or a different region of the United States. They all are starting new lives in a new place, with a new future. A future that is strong and meaningful. A future that is powerful and true. A future of greatness and happiness...

YJ, I feel your pain on the laziness topic. It was very hard this summer for me to build up the effort to do my summer assignments, but i did eventually finish them.

Kennedy, what a wonderful summer you had!!! Absolutely fantastic and fun!!! By the way, thank you for the words of encouragement upon my comment. It is very thoughtful for you to say. I greatly appreciate your kind words. Now, about Junior Year, I love your preparation upon Junior Year. Upon your fear for the year, it will truly show intimidation here and there. However, with your determination and intelligence, you will conquer those fears of the ACT, SAT, and scholarships. Besides, many opportunities are to come this year, and the next year. Stay strong, stay courageous, stay awesome, and I can rest assure you, you will define greatness upon this year.

Hi my name is Amanda Starliper I am in 6th period ap lang. This summer i got to go to Young Life camp, which is a Christian organization. While I was there I got to go water ziplineing, play bubble soccer, horse back riding, and all kinds of other amazing activities. However the most adventerous part of camp was I got to jump off a telephone pole. This year I would say that I'm most nervous about keeping straight A's with all of my extra activities. I'm most excited about my teachers and scedual this year, because I think I got a good layout for my school day.

Hi, I'm Megan Bicking. For AP Language, I have 6th period. I didn't do anything but watch netflix and clean my house. It was boring. However, I did get to sleep in everyday. Other than that, there was nothin exciting. For school this year, I have a good list of classes. Some are easy, but a few have some pressure. I'm nervous that I will not be able to handle my work load, because i just got a job recently. I'm excited to be in more challenging classes.

Hello, my name is Christian Unsihuay, coming from ms.gearhart's 6th period, who teaches AP Language. For the entirety of the summer I stayed home taking care of house while my mother went to work. So, for about 10 hours each day, i would be doing a variety of things that include: sleeping, eating, reading (not the summer assignment books until much later), playing video games, spending time with my bird, or going outside to hang out with my friends. It was like this for at least a month and a half, until my cousins invited me to Delaware to be with them at their graduation. At the first chance I got I replied, saying that i would love to be there as well as my mom who took some of her days off to also see them graduate. It was a hassle to pack, but after gathering our things we rode all the way to Delaware and stayed with my grandparents for a couple of days where our entire family went out to eat, watch the movies, or just spend time with each other at home. The ceremony wasn't long as I had originally expected, but it was short and nice. After the graduation, we said our goodbyes and returned back home, restarting the whole routine over again, until the end of summer. It was about 3 weeks from school when I remembered I had to do my summer assignments, and what happened was, when I went to grab it, it wasn't there. At first I thought I misplaced it, but after looking everywhere I came to the conclusion that I must have left my folder with all my assignments at school, which by then was too late to get them back. So after, dealing with that I asked a friend to send me pictures of the assignments and from then on I tried to do it as best as I could to get it finished. Not much really happened this Summer but it was nice to get a nice break for a little while even if it was stressful near the end. At first I was a little nervous to come back and do so much work that I wouldn't have time for anything else, but that feeling went away eventually, because I thought, all the classes I'm going to take are classes that I asked to be put in and I know if I try my best i can get through this school year. So far, I really enjoy all my classes and the teachers as well, because some if them i had in the previous year, like ms.gearhart. Even the teachers I didn't have before are really nice and helpful. I hope everyone enjoys school as much as I enjoy it.

Hi my name is Emma and I spent my summer in New York and Florida with my sister and mom. Before I left for New York I was able to finish my summer assignment for AP Lang, which was great because I didn't have to stress about it over break. While in New York i went to a family friend's wedding then straight after that our cousin took us out in the city which was AMAZING because everything was so bright and big. However, we were only there for about two hours before we had to rush to pack our stuff and head to our flight for Florida at four in the morning.

Hello, I'm Trinity from 2nd period AP language class. Over the summer I did little simple things that made this summer one to remember. Of course like most people I went to the beach, Virgina Beach to be specific. I went there with my Mom and little sister as a just girls trip. The beach shops were nice and full of colors more importantly hearing the ocean waves crash onto shore was soothing and calming at dusk. Some times the little things make me the happiest. My friends and I at night time would drive out to this playground parking lot and lay out on the car and look at the stars while drinking a slurpee. I know to some people it might not sound fun or exciting but to me it was something I looked forward to every other night. Looking at the sky full of stars swept away my worries and took me into a place where I had a positive mindset on everything. Now onto the school year. I'm looking forward to my Athletic training class because when I graduate high school I want to become an athletic trainer and get my Ph.d in sports medicine.

I'm Savannah Williams from 6th period. Over the summer, I went to Cape Charles with my bestfriend. I also spent the majority of my summer playing mallets in HHS marching band. Along with that, I finally got my permit, so that's pretty exciting. I'm looking forward to Marching season and my AP classes. Musselman High School also has an indoor percussion group I might try out for. Overall, I'm kind of bummed summer is over, but I'm really pumped for this school year.

Hi it’s Jacob Burton from 6th period. This summer I was very busy. I never had a boring day at home. I got certified as a lifeguard in May, and have worked 4+ days a week since then. It seemed like a cool job at first because it was super easy and I worked at a private pool so there were seldom people at the pool. However, after I finished my summer assignment I got bored fast. I would NOT recommend being a lifeguard to anyone unless you are very lazy and enjoy spending hours at a time on your phone. Also, I wouldn't recommend the job if you have as unfortunate luck as I do.. After just 2 days on the jobs I had to make the only save of the summer at my pool. I can’t complain though, I made lots of unforgettable memories with great friends. I’m excited to make more memories this year.
